The CF-19 and CF-30 hard drives are equipped with a heater to warm up the hard drive to enable operation at sub 20°C by simply warming up the hard drive – this is only one example of the know-how that Panasonic has collected with over 10 years in notebook development and manufacturing. On the road to our current product range one of the aspects we have emphasised on is the development of the magnesium alloy casing, thereby introducing shock absorbent materials in the notebook sector. This makes us the first to secure 12 inch displays against impact damages.
All Toughbook models are made in Panasonic factories. We have even developed and produced our own special production lines. This way we make sure that our products meet the high standards that you as well as we expect. That’s where all knowledge reports are gathered and learning’s are integrated into the production process. Before one of our products is approved for mass production it is quality controlled on everyday use under the severest conditions. For example, hinges are tested to resist 50,000 motions without damage prior to release.
What does this mean for our customers: They always receive a product that is based on the latest in technology and innovation. Even the production of our magnesium casing under 1,500 tons of pressure requires specialist know how and equipment that a licensed manufacturer can not offer.
In-house production has a further advantage. It enables us – respective to the volume of the order - to integrate customer specific equipment requirements into production.
The market is recognizing this key competence – it is no real surprise that Panasonic is the European and global market leader in the ‘Rugged Notebook’ sector (sources: Venture Development Corporation; 02/03 and IMS Research; 2004).
